For these elections, more than one hundred debates took place on the regional branches of the France 3 network. The DaIA department of the Technology Department has devised a device that, thanks to artificial intelligence, allows for the comparative analysis of all these debates via thematic, geographical, political and demographic classifications. This system uses automatic dialogue transcription, facial recognition and speaker identification techniques, and then carries out a fine categorization of the vocabulary used by each speaker during these evenings. All of this data is then made available to the data-journalists.

This system has also benefited from feedback from research previously carried out with the Information Department, the Innovation and Prospective Department and the MediaLab on the subject of indexing and the rapid provision of content for editorial offices.

Data + AI

The rise of artificial intelligence tools is now providing strong added value in the classification of audiovisual content. At a time when the GAFA are developing ever more sophisticated artificial intelligence tools, it is important for public service broadcasters to equip themselves with their own resources. Means that are adapted to the requirements of the information produced every day on its airwaves.

The DaIA team

This is what motivated the decision of France Télévisions to create a new department at the beginning of 2020: DaIA (Data and Artificial Intelligence). This team, made up of some fifteen specialists: data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, constitutes a pole of expertise at the service of the company's project teams, and collaborates with all the research units of France tv and its subsidiaries.
