France is the second producer of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) projects and is recognised for the creativity and quality of its innovative content. France Télévisions is a major player in the sector, reinforcing its innovation strategy with the France tv StoryLab, exploring XR narratives. And the end of the year promises to be a great for the StoryLab with numerous releases and public features planned before Christmas. We reveal a little more with this trailer!

Technology for engaging content

Through a variety of interactive and immersive formats (documentary, animation, fiction), the France tv StoryLab's coproductions approach the issues facing society from a new perspective. The fight against global warming, preservation of the environment, the accessibility to culture, the visibility and the place of women, and the gender fluidity, all of those will be France tv StoryLab's coproductions in the up coming months.

While the France tv StoryLab explores all possilities offered by XR technologies, now stable, its teams has a strong conviction : technology has to serve a story and a narrative, enriching it through a unique experience for users, and not the other way around.

A strong and recognised expertise

The France tv StoryLab's vocation is to create extraordinary experiences, to shift the boundaries of storytelling thanks to new distribution’s devices such as Quest headsets and mobile devices, and to co-create the tomorrow contents with the audience. A know-how that has already proven itself, as several of its coproductionshave been nominated for prestigious festivals and, above all, have won awards!

Among them, Lady Sapiens, winner of the Grand Prizx at the Pixii Festival earlier this summer. This original collaboration between Little Big Story, Ubisoft and France Télévisions is a global project combining documentary, educational modules, VR and physical experiences available in the autumn.

In a completely different genre, the VR app "Dans la peau de Thomas Pesquet" - "In the Skin of Thomas Pesquet" won over the jury at the SMA Awards, which awarded it the prize for Best Immersive Creation (360°, VR, Augmented Reality) in 2018.

Presented at the Luchon Festival in 2020, "République", an interactive and immersive fiction that immerses viewers in the emotions felt during an attack in the parisian subway, received the Best Digital Fiction Award of the year.

MOA won the XR award at NewImages in 2020.

Let's bet that the next releases will be just as good for French public broadcasting! 😊

Final test before launching automatic subtitling of franceinfo

Closed captions are produced everyday for the French public news channel, from 6 to 9 AM and from 9 PM to midnight. In addition, on France TV website and applications, franceinfo will receive automatic subtitling thanks to an Artificial Intelligence during the rest of the day.

We'll keep it, tweak it, or
remake it—you decide!
