The first start-up acceleration at France tv with Newsbridge

Open Innovation
Published on November 09, 2017

At a time when the GAFA (Google, Apple and other web giants) are developing ever more sophisticated artificial intelligence tools, it is important for the public service to equip itself with its own resources. Means adapted to the requirements of the information produced every day on its antennas. This is why France Télévisions is launching its first start-up accelerator within the information department by initiating a collaboration with Newsbridge.

This initiative aims to increase the innovation policy of the information directorate by initiating more active cooperation with start-ups in the media sector. It is in addition to many actions already carried out in terms of innovation, including the creation of the MediaLab, the new TV news set, the 2017 Presidential VR application and the serious game "My campaign".

After a pre-selection phase and a session of presentations before an internal jury, the start-up Newsbridge was chosen to benefit from the acceleration program. This young company proposes to develop with journalists new ways to produce, deliver, share and qualify audiovisual content in an intuitive and collaborative way.

To date, the Newsbridge teams have taken up residence at France Télévisions.

A win-win partnership

This acceleration program, operated by the MediaLab and the Innovation department, in partnership with Cap Digital, is the first experiment of this type of device, which may be renewed or even amplified later.

The start-up will be welcomed by France Télévisions over a period of four months. This collaboration could be extended based on the expertise developed.

In a logic of co-creation, cooperation and sharing of know-how between Newsbridge and France Télévisions, exchanges with the Information Department teams, an experimental phase and support for the start-up's growth are planned.

Thanks to this immersion close to the information teams, Newsbridge will be able to adapt its offer, test it and make it evolve to meet the needs of a player like France Télévisions. For its part, France Télévisions will provide internal sponsorship and monthly working sessions.

With this acceleration initiative for start-ups, France Télévisions confirms its ambition to be the leading partner in innovation.

Next-Generation Media: Meta-Media's trend book for understanding the impact of generative AI on information

Just over a year ago, global tech giants, led by Mark Zuckerberg before quietly backtracking in March of this year, promised us a new future that would allow everyone the leisure of venturing into alternate worlds, adopting desired identities, and connecting to the world like never before through the Metaverse. Since November last year, a completely different innovation has been shaking up the world of tech and beyond, as this technology is much more democratizable (and already democratized) than the Metaverse. As you may have easily guessed, we are referring to generative AI!

Authenticating what we see to better give what to see: this is the ambition of a new fact-checking tool

Finding the truth in the false, or the false in the truth, is a situation we can all be confronted with. At a time where information is consumed on social networks and platforms, it is sometimes difficult to determine what is right. Fact-checking appears to be an activity that should be developed through a new shared tool.
