1st French broadcaster to broadcast in UHD
Following approval from ARCOM and a first trial during the Grand Raid de la Réunion last October, France Télévisions launched France 2's UHD channel on 23 January. The channel is available 24 hours a day on TNT channel 52 in France and channel 22 in the French overseas territories. All the channel's programmes and native UHD productions will be broadcast on this channel, particularly for this year's major sporting events.
Très fier de participer à ce magnifique projet qui va permettre aux téléspectateurs français de l’hexagone et des outremers de recevoir nos programmes en UHD sur la TNT, le satellite et très bientôt les box. https://t.co/WT2WZvhB2h

France 3 will also be available in UHD from 10 July, for two months, on TNT channel 53 in France and channel 23 in the French overseas territories.
This technology will also be available to both channels throughout France via satellite (Fransat) and gradually rolled out to ISPs (Internet Service Providers).
But what is ultra HD on a television screen?
It's a step closer to reality on our screens, with unrivalled image quality (1 billion colours and 4 times greater definition). The frame rate, up from 25 to 50 per second, offers greater fluidity and clarity of movement on screen.
This technology also contributes to the accessibility of our content. Thanks to the remarkably immersive sound, people with hearing difficulties can more easily identify what is dialogue and what is the atmosphere of the programme.
Whether it's a film, a series, a magazine or a match, this innovation allows people to experience France Télévisions' programmes more intensely - which promises intense emotions for Roland Garros or the Olympic and Paralympic Games! :)
